The Legend of Korra: “When Extremes Meet”: Travel in style

(For those who can’t view it out of the country!)

Remains Of WWII Plane Found In Sahara Desert

A World War II plane a British pilot crashed in the Saharan Desert has been found frozen in time 70 years later. The Kittyhawk P-40 is an aviation time capsule that has remained unseen and untouched since it crash-landed in June 1942. It is thought the pilot, believed to have been Flight Sergeant Dennis Copping (24), survived the crash and initially used his parachute for shelter. He may have then made a desperate and ultimately futile attempt to reach civilisation — some 200 miles away — by walking out into the desert. Now a search is to begin for the airman’s remains — as aviation experts and historians begin an operation to recover and display the P-40 aircraft in his memory. The chance find was made by an oil worker exploring a remote region of the Western Desert in Egypt. It is more than 200 miles from the nearest town in a vast expanse of largely featureless terrain.

My little boy David loves watching the Fantastic Four films, he especially loves Chris Evans and spends a lot of time playing at being Johnny Storm. I have to play the baddie and he defeats me. He’s got his walls covered with Johnny Storm pictures too and he knows all the lines. We were recently staying with my best friend Tom who lives in Manchester, England and found out that Chris Evans was coming to town. David was disappointed to find that we’d have already left before the film crew arrived so he sat down and made a card with some pictures for Chris Evans and wrote him a little note. I’ve never seen him sit so long at a table and concentrate! I wish I’d scanned it but I never thought. On the front he did a little picture of Johnny Storm flying across the sky and inside another picture of a scene from the first movie with some speech bubbles and he wrote a little note to Chris saying he was his favourite actor. His ‘uncle’ Tom promised he’d try to get it to Chris Evans for him.

Tom took the card to the film site but security was so tight that he couldn’t get near anyone so he left the card with a note saying who it was from and that he was sorry not to get to take a photo for David’s birthday which was soon. The security guy told him to write down his address and he’d try to find someone to pass it to but made no promises as everything was crazy. That was on Friday 24th Sept. The following morning Tom received a special ‘next day delivery’ from Chris Evans! In it was a brilliant photo of Chris holding up David’s little card, a birthday card with a message from Chris Evans, he’d also signed two BluRay DVD covers with a little message on each for David. On one it said ‘FLAME ON!’ and was signed and on the other it said ‘DREAM BIG, BUDDY’ and was also signed.

It was David’s birthday yesterday. When he saw the card from Chris he read it, looked up, read it again, asked us to read it for him then he just stared at it grinning just repeating, ‘‘really? not really! really? is it real?’’ When we told him what had happened he started to tremble a bit, ran to his room, ran back again and basically didn’t know where to put himself. He had actually seen the photo before his birthday but we’ve now had it framed and he knew about nothing else. For the rest of the day he kept running back to the card and picture to look at them for the millionth time. We haven’t been allowed to play the DVDs yet as they have to stay on display and no-one’s allowed to touch them. When he’d gone to bed at the end of the day, we were tidying the mess up and had a big panic because we couldn’t find the photo! We were just getting desperate when David’s older sister had an idea. She checked under his pillow and it was there! {x}

#at what point do we all have to agree that he is actually captain america?

*~A Perfect Cup Of Tea~*

amatoralatus:

- an adventure with Claire & Friends

So, in my family we have a lot of tea (this is one shelf of many).

But my favourite tea is PG Tips (ooh pyramid bags oooh).

First I fill the kettle - I should probably be more exact with how much water I put in but I usually just do it ‘till I think there’s enough.

And I put the water on to boil.

Next I take my favourite mug and add my tea bag.

Once the water’s boiled I pour it in, making sure I leave enough room for milk.

I like a lot of milk in my tea.

I always take out the tea bag before adding milk - it probably doesn’t make too much difference, but I always think it looks odd otherwise (omg we have so many teaspoons).

Then I can add the milk and stir!

Oh Bother!

And that’s how I make a perfect cup of tea~!

Fangirl Goes Spelunking: Cave Spring

enochianrage:

LOCATION: Cave Spring, GA

Very cool entrance.

Cave Spring doesn’t do regular tours, so that is pretty neat. One is free to explore the cave at one’s own leisure and it is lit, so no headlamps are required. Next time I’m bringing one, though, because there were some alcoves that were really shadowy.

The entryway is a narrow tunnel but easy to walk through without too much bending over (for normal people. I happen to be six feet tall, so…).

But the weird thing was, I could CLEARLY hear water running somewhere under the rock.

It took me a while but I finally found this tiny little crevice at the bottom of the rock walls of the tunnel…

It was just a few inches but I was able to stick my camera down there and, through the wonders of flash photography…

…I was able to discover that there was indeed a little stream running through the rocks. Cool!

Further on, the cave opens up into a big room.

There’s actually a big cathedral-ceiling with pipe-organ formations but whenever I tried to take a picture of that, it turned out like this…

I began questioning whether Cave Spring was infested with Vashta Nerada and this was how my camera lens interpreted them.

LOTS of Vashta Nerada

I escaped into a narrow tunnel that required lots of bending double and crawling

Then I was possesed by a Crossroads Demon

Then we found the Yeerk Pool

But there were a bunch of candy wrappers so we came to the conclusion that Gabriel had been here. And recently.

It’s a good thing we’re not claustrophobic

Then I found some weird graffitti

Maybe it was actually part of an exorcism because I am no longer possesd by a Crossroads Demon.

So yeah. Cave Spring is by no means pristine but there aren’t too many caves that are lighted and allow you to poke around in there on your own and not on a registered expedition or tour. But, to be honest, you can’t really go anywhere because all of the potentially risky areas are sealed off, unfortunately (like I said, NOT a pristine cave).

Fun fact though. It was the first cave I ever went to when I was a little girl. Imagine knowing the word “cave” but having nothing to place it with and then entering this place. Because, when I was little, that’s exactly what happened.

I guess some of the wonder I felt then has stayed with me and I still love caves.
